A Guide to Airport Transport in American Samoa
How are you going to get between the airport and your accommodation in American Samoa LINK#TT038? Don't worry, it's not like there are a multitude of options. We keep this guide simple, like American Samoa likes to keep their offerings simple, in this guide to airport transport in American Samoa.
The main island, Tutuila (or Pago) LINK#D006 has a few options to choose from for getting to and from the airport. On the Manu'a Islands LINK#D012, airport transfers are a lot more straightforward, usually organised by your accommodation.
Table of Contents
1.Taxis

Taxi awaits outside the Arrivals Area of Pago Pago International Airport. Admittedly, more so for flights from Hawai'i than flights from Samoa, but we're not bitter.
It is normal to agree on a price with the driver before setting off. Taxis can sometimes work out cheaper than getting an airport transfer offered by your accommodation, especially if you have more than one passenger in your group.
Note that most taxis seat a total of four passengers and they will only accept local currency (there are currency exchange bureaus at the airport).
See Taxis in American Samoa: Taxi Fares, How to Use & More for approximate prices to expect.
2.'Aiga Buses

If your flight is arriving or departing Pago Pago between 6 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday, the family-run bus services ('aiga buses) of Tutuila offer a cheaper airport transfer.
They'll bring you right up to the terminal, so there's no lugging your bags too far between bus stops. Look out for buses that run to Tafuna and ask if they stop at the airport when boarding.
Travelling to or from the airport via an 'aiga bus will never cost you more than US$5, but considering where hotels are, it will likely be much less.

3.Tutuila Accommodation Airport Transfers

When it comes to airport transfers offered by your accommodation, you'll find that options are somewhat limited across Pago Pago and Tutuila.
The good news? Some hotels do offer complimentary transfers. Tradewinds Hotel, for instance, includes free airport transfers with your stay.
Sadie's By The Sea takes a slightly different approach—they'll pick you up if you're flying with Hawaiian Airlines, but otherwise they'll organise a taxi for you.
Most accommodations follow this latter approach, happily arranging transport but leaving the cost to you. It's pretty standard practice, so don't be surprised if this is what you encounter during your visit.
4.Manu'a Islands Accommodation Airport Transfers

Unlike Tutuila, you'll find that accommodation on the Manu'a Islands LINK#D012 almost always includes a complimentary airport pickup—it's practically standard practice here!
There's a good reason for this generous gesture. These remote islands don't have taxis or public transport, so your hosts certainly wouldn't dream of leaving you stranded at the airport with your luggage.
The key is arranging this service before you arrive. A quick email or phone call to your accommodation will sort everything out.

5.Vehicle Rental Airport Delivery

Planning to rent a car for your entire stay in Tutuila? Here's a tip we've found incredibly handy: arrange for airport delivery.
Your rental car will be waiting for you in the airport car park when you land, and there's usually a representative there to walk you through the pick-up process. The best part? There's no fee for this service.
Just make sure you organise this before you arrive, as rental booths typically don't open unless they have a confirmed booking. For all your options, check out our 5 Best Car Rentals in Pago Pago & American Samoa guide.
Keep in mind that there are no car rentals available in the Manu'a Islands.
