Information, Shops & Services in Pago Pago & Tutuila

Not only is Tutuila home to some of American Samoa’s largest supermarkets, but there are convenience stores every few hundred feet or so to ensure you can grab some essentials when you need them. Although many supermarkets are closed on Sunday, some smaller convenience stores may still be open.

Pago Pago Supermarkets

Pago Pago and Tutuila are home to American supermarket chains where you'll find the most variety when it comes to food staples and imported goods. Opening hours are typically 6/7 am to 8/9 pm Monday to Sunday. Some stores like KS Mart close Sunday. The largest supermarkets are as follows:

Convenience Stores

Tutuila is also has an abundance of convenience stores, which are usually easily identifiable by the shop name sign printed in bold along with logos for Bluesky or similar. Locally run stores are typically open 7/8 am to 8/9 pm Monday to Saturday, while Chinese-run stores are open around 5 am to 12 am Monday to Sunday. A rule of thumb is that there is a convenience store well-stocked with food essentials. A non-comprehensive list of convenience stores in Tutuila includes:

Markets and Roadside Stalls

When it comes to fruit and vegetables, you have even more options in Tutuila. Roadside stalls usually stock a small variety of fruit and vegetables, usually found along the main road (Route 001) between Pava'ia'i and Nu'uuli. Needless to say, these vendors only accept cash.

On the other hand, the largest gatherings of fruit and vegetables in Pago Pago can be found at the Fagatogo Market, located in Fagatogo near the bus station.

Markets are typically open from 5:30 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday and 4 am to 4 pm Saturday.

Restaurants in Pago Pago

Light medications (like painkillers), baby products, feminine hygiene products and toiletries are sold in supermarkets and convenience stores in Pago Pago, as listed in the "Food and Groceries" section above.

Pharmacies

Government-managed and independent pharmacies can be found across Pago Pago and tend to be open 24/7 by the hospital and from 8 am to 6 pm, Monday to Saturday elsewhere.

The pharmacy with the widest range of goods is LBJ Tropical Medical Center Pharmacy, while Fagaalu Pharmacy and Tafuna Pharmacy have more branches that may be more convenient.

Medical Centres and Hospitals

Pago Pago and American Samoa's main hospital is LBJ Tropical Medical Center at Faga'alu, which offers specialist services, surgery and outpatient clinics. The hospital is open 24/7. There are also outlying medical centres around Tutuila offering basic services and facilities. Independent medical centres/clinics are usually open from 8 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday.

When it comes to staying connected, American Samoa's phone networks provide the most reliable and convenient option. Otherwise, you may have to pay for an internet connection in accommodations and internet cafés. There is also a post office in Pago Pago.

Phone Networks

There are two network providers in American Samoa, ASTCA and Bluesky, which have branches in the following locations:

• ASTCA Central Office – Route 106, Tafuna
• ASTCA – Nu'uuli (across the road from the Laufou Shopping Center and Carls Jr.)
• Bluesky Nu'uuli – Laufou Shopping Center, Nu'uuli.

These stores are typically open from 8 am to 5 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 2 pm on Saturdays. Otherwise, most convenience stores offer e-charge top-ups for at least one of American Samoa's phone networks. Post Office

Pago Pago has one main post office in its city centre run by the United States Postal Service (1 Lumanai Building on Route 001 opposite the Jean P. Haydon Museum). Services include postage stamps, domestic and international mail, passport photos, money orders and more.

Opening hours are typically from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday and 8:30 am to 12 pm Saturday.

Internet and WiFi

Free access to internet and WiFi is limited in Pago Pago and across Tutuila. Public access to paid internet is mostly offered by hotels and accommodations for fees that can add up quickly if you're planning on using the internet frequently. For this reason, we recommend getting a local SIM card and using a data plan as the most cost-effective way to access the internet. Otherwise, WiFi options include:

If you need to exchange currency or withdraw cash while in American Samoa, your options are limited compared to neighbouring Samoa. Currently, the main commercial bank is the Territorial Bank of American Samoa (TBAS).

Banks

TBAS offers services such as foreign exchange, deposits, and withdrawals. Banking hours are generally Monday to Friday, 9 am to 3 pm, with select branches open on Saturday mornings.
